Fawkner Blend

+1 image

Description

“Fawkner Blend,” was part of the RENUWALL scheme in Fawkner, supported by the Merri-Bek City Council. This piece celebrates the incredible cultural tapestry of Fawkner through the universal language of tea.

Tea is more than just a beverage—it’s a symbol of connection, hospitality, and heritage. In this mural, I’ve combined the tea customs from the top demographics of people who call Fawkner home. I playfully reference cultural elements combined with traditional drinks like a Chinese dragon egg teapot to a Lebanese double-stacked kettle wearing a traditional Fez, alongside a range of other unique, culturally significant vessels. Each element in this surreal still life tells a story of Fawkner’s rich, diverse community all a top an Aussie themed tablecloth representing the land we share.

The warm, regal tones of tea merge with the brass and metallic sheen of the kettles, creating a sense of luxury and harmony. My hope is that this mural evokes a feeling of unity, belonging and togetherness, reflecting the many traditions, stories, and people that call Fawkner home.
