Jaycob Campbell, AKA Gonketa, is an artist whose use of bold, bright colours and linework is influenced by a range of contemporary styles, including manga, comic books, pop art and street art.
Born deaf, Campbell’s first language is Auslan (Australian Sign Language), and as such he continuously explores the complexity of hands, including their shape, form, and use for communication through sign languages and commonly used hand gestures. Campbell’s work incorporates a number of techniques such as spray paint, enamel paint on canvas, digital works, and murals painted directly onto interior and exterior building walls.
His work aims to empower the deaf community and raise awareness about the use and intricacy of sign languages.
This work in Rainbow Alley was painted for the Flash Forward project.
