Craigieburn Icons 2

This traffic signal box is a part of the Craigieburn Road Legacy Art trail.

As part of the Craigieburn Road Upgrade, Major Road Projects Victoria worked with local artists and the community to reimagine and reinvent public spaces through a signal box art trail.

Local artists were invited to contribute to a vibrant art trail featuring 30 traffic signal cabinets along Craigieburn Road. Each piece of public art tells the story of "What makes Craigieburn unique," serving as the main theme of the art installation. The artwork also celebrates sub-themes such as community, connection, travel, history, culture, diversity, environment, nature, and sustainability.

Will Elika is a multidisciplinary artist based in Craigieburn, known for his dynamic acrylic paintings and digital art, extending to wood carvings and furniture design.

Describing his work as urban contemporary, Will draws inspiration from the vibrant aesthetics of 80s and 90s pop culture, as well as his rich life experiences and Pacific Island heritage, specifically from the Cook Islands and Samoa. This blend of influences informs his unique style, allowing him to create pieces that resonate with both personal and cultural narratives.

Through his art, Will seeks to engage viewers and celebrate the vibrant tapestry of contemporary life, bridging the past with the present.

This work is titled "Craigieburn icons 2", featuring a few iconic items mainly the Golden Sun Moth (which is also one of our largest playgrounds here in Craigieburn) and the Craigieburn Eagles – both our Basketball and Footy teams.
