Welcome to Glenhuntly

+1 image

Description

Welcome sign for the suburb of Glenhuntly.

The artist says of the piece (on his Instagram);
Bringing some life to a sleepy pocket of Glen Huntly, this mural project was designed by us as part of the Placemaking Framework for City of Glen Eira.

The mural starts by representing the eclectic nightlife in the form of a faux neon sign. We then featured a local favourite in the Tawny Frogmouth which are usually found camping up in the fork of native trees, camouflaged as a broken branch. Being a strong Indian community, we designed a paisley pattern with elements representing the local traders. Purposefully misaliging the pattern in a nod to the local institution Darn Cheap Fabrics.

In true signwriter fashion, we had to finish with a weathered ghost sign. Dry brushing the letters to make it look like some ripped wallpaper had revealed a sign from bygone era.

Add some seating, plants and solar lights and youve got yourself a space people can feel safe and comfortable in.
