New Natural

Description

David Lee Pereira and Amina Briggs created a cohesive design spanning across two walls, representing themes of environmental consciousness and First Nations heritage.

'The Maidenhair Fern has been selected as an endemic species of the Dandenong Ranges, which recognises and pays respect to the land that came long before us. Scattered amongst the foliage are plastic zip ties which have been used by the artist to represent the impact of our own presence on the natural landscape. This statement of environmental awareness is important for David particularly, as someone fascinated and constantly inspired by the natural environment.

Waa, the Australian Raven, serves as the protector of the waterways in Melbourne. The train lines themselves are a modern representation of waterways, flowing through Melbourne as a means of transportation. Historically, waterways held immense importance for Amina’s Boonwurrung ancestors, providing sustenance, safe passage, and essential resources. Water remains a cornerstone of significance for the Boonwurrung people, and so Waa symbolises the spirit of safe passage for both passengers and conductors on the metropolitan railways.'

This mural represents natural world adapting to the presence of plastic, human infrastructure and the footprints we leave behind.

You will find the second mural created by David, just a few doors down along the pedestrian walkway: https://streetartcities.com/dashboard/hunter/artworks/03bbf6a8-c9d9-4ddc-948a-7859357bd0f3

Hunter

Virusfreak79
Hi, my name is Neda. What started off as exploring the street art during lunch time, has over time turned into an obsession. ‘Going for a drive’ or ‘a bit of a walk’ would take me to parts of this beautiful country that I would otherwise never see. Street art hunting has become my fitness regime and the lens through which I explore the world. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a thriving street art scene and a group of dedicated hunters in this city. Let us show you around?
