The Gift

Gijs Vanhee is de oprichter en curator van Mechelen Muurt. Als stadsartiest van Mechelen (2014-2005) nam hij het initiatief voor dit project.

Zijn werk heeft een zeer herkenbare lijnvoering, waarbij hij meestal gebruik maakt van een combinatie van spuitbussen en verf.

Boven café 'Antverpia' schilderde hij als afsluiter voor Mechelen Muurt een van zijn voor hem kenmerkende 'mutanten', dit keer met een leeuwenkop. 'The Gift' drukt symbolisch het project uit: een gebaar van de straat terug te geven aan de mensen die er wonen, door koude kale muren aan te pakken met kleur en verhaal.

Gijs Vanhee is the founder and curator of Mechelen Muurt. As city artist of Mechelen (2014-2005), he took the initiative for this project.

His work has very recognisable lines, usually using a combination of spray cans and paint.

Above café ‘Antverpia’, he painted one of his signature ‘mutants’, this time with a lion's head, as a finale for Mechelen Muurt. ‘The Gift’ symbolically expresses the project: a gesture of giving the street back to the people who live there, by tackling cold bare walls with colour and story.
