Spectacular Mural commisioned by the Town Council to Javier Lobo, to reinterpret the acclaimed painting by Francisco de Goya, los Fusilamientos del 3 de Mayo (The Executions of May 3rd) .
In this impressive artwork, Lobo, offers us his vision of the executions of the innocent Madrid citizens who tried to repel the invasion of the Bonaparte troops, in a place, very close to where the actual killings took place
The mural covers roughly 300 square meters of a concrete wall where the artist has cleverly used the structural steps and sloped angles to give the dramatic execution scene a unique 3D depth.
Lobo heavily emphasizes the high-contrast Chiaroscuro to add drama, which he also amplifies with the distorted terrified expressions of the Spanish victims against the mechanical geometry of the French soldiers, appearing like a faceless machine
