To all the women of Villa de Vallecas

To all the women of Villa de Vallecas who write history every day.

This is one of two murals paying tribute to the neighborhood’s unsung women—those who transform history daily through activism, by living their lives, or by surviving in a society marked by inequality, where they have often been denied a leading role simply because they are women.

The protagonists of this piece are Mari Carmen, Pilar, Estrella, Alicia, Teo, Carmen, Adela, and Milagros, who posed to become the faces of this mural. The work was created by zaida escobart with the support of espacio de igualdad maria moliner, the Villa de Vallecas District Council, and the Cultural Heritage Department of the Madrid City Council.
