‘Constellations’ is a permanent public installation created on the vaulted ceiling of two pedestrian bridges that cross the Manzanares River in Madrid. Together, they comprise more than 6.5 million tiles from the MIKRA series. These two colossal murals photographically represent residents of the two neighbourhoods that the bridges connect. These residents have been photographed to appear as if they were floating in the air. The work refers to the weightless representation of the human figure in sacred frescoes and mosaics of the past. The pixels of the pictures taken by artist DANIEL CANOGAR were transformed into the tiles of these murals, thus bringing together ancient techniques with contemporary processes.
