La Chulapa

A social movement in Spain inspired the creation of La Chulapa 
 
Jorge Rodríguez-Gerada is the author of a new work of urban art called La Chulapa in the Tercio and Terol districts of Madrid. 
The figure of La Chulapa evokes a woman with the typical costume of the late nineteenth century. This piece is located in the tower of the Old Water Reservoir in the street of Amalarico near San Isidro in Carabanchel. 
 
The aim of this project was to activate the visibility of parts of the capital that unfortunately have been forgotten by the current administrations. And what better way to do it than through urban art. Moreover, the mural has a deeper meaning because it is a tribute to all men and women who have joined forces to unite this place. 
 
Most importantly, La Chulapa is located in an enclave in Madrid where the inhabitants have resisted the attacks of gentrification that permeate the areas around the capital. In other words, it is a transforming force with a lot of history.
