Venetia, Lady Digby, on her Deathbed

Mad C has taken the colours and composition of Van Dyck's dead Lady Digby and recreated them in huge strokes - the white diagonal sheet, the yellow face and arm, the blue and black shroud. The realistic pink rose is a symbol of love, in this case  destroved love - Lady Venetia has passed away betore her time.
