"Between two days: If the proposal may seem like a contradiction from the outset, «painting the night» is on the contrary rich in meaning. The title deliberately contains an ambiguity: painting at night means either representing night or painting at night. To paint the darkness or to paint in the darkness, is already to make a choice, to refine one’s external vision or to abandon it. The night allows, both physically and symbolically, this «detachment from the world» so dear to modernity. The moment of dusk could also be the perfect metaphor for the volatile frontier between figuration and abstraction."
