Solidarité

Work by Jasmine Roemendael, who works under the artist's name 'Pink Painter'. The female artist is known for her typographic style and colourful murals.

The mural depicts a handshake crowned with the word ‘solidarity’.

Pink Painter: 'This handshake symbolises a moment that marked me from the images I saw at the time. It was a man who had come to help from the north of the country, and as he was leaving, another man who lived here came to thank him, but they didn't need words for that. They just shook hands and you can see the emotion in that gesture. So yes, it's a simple handshake, but it means ‘thank you’ and ‘you're welcome’. And I thought it was a very strong image that I tried to represent in this neighbourhood.’

The mural was inaugurated on Saturday 13 July 2024, as part of the commemoration of the third anniversary of the floods that hit the Ourthe and Vesdre basins.
