Nestled in the beating heart of Lecce's 167 B, this art laboratory is the result of the enterprising vision of Chekos art and Anna Kitlas. For more than a decade, this space has been a constantly evolving epicenter, a hotbed of research and experimentation for urban art, exploring the hidden details of everyday life. In collaboration with a diverse range of artists, cultural workers and art collectives, this laboratory refines new visions on living, using innovative spaces and languages to follow the social and geographical evolution of the places in which it operates.
Its initiatives have left an indelible mark: from the intervention in the Borgo San Nicola prison in Lecce, to public schools, to Institutes of Italian culture around the world. One notable project is the '167 Art Project,' which has resulted in extraordinary artistic performances. Internationally renowned street artists have redesigned six impressive facades of public houses in the 167 B neighborhood, collaborating with the parish community of St. John the Baptist. Since then, 20 major works have been completed on building facades in the heart of the neighborhood.
Vibrant colors, monumental works and careful sociological analysis have transformed the facades into blank canvases for artists' creativity and engaging community participation. These artworks not only break social molds, but inspire a sense of belonging, reflected in the community's widespread desire to be an active part of the future of this special corner of Lecce.
Workshop 167B street has always worked with various international realities, carrying out special projects in Poland, Luxembourg, Indonesia, Albania and others. With its experience and creativity, it has provided support to various public and private institutions in the implementation of urban regeneration projects.
Thus, in 2018 and 2019, 167B Street studio created the urban art festival MurAl Fest in Albania, creating more than 20 mural works in the Albanian capital. In 2022, it accepted an invitation from the Municipality of Augustow in Poland, where thanks to the professionalism of the artists involved, 5 mural works related to the identity of the Polish country were created.
