The Gift

"This work evokes the gift or the exchange, it is a work of memory in link with the site in which it implants itself.
It is located on the site of an old wheat mill, on the wall of the Abbey of Montivilliers in Normandy (Classified Historic Monument of France).
We created a scene where two characters are exchanging flour, we can assume this action was happening every day in this place for decades before we painted it.
The concentric composition reminds us of the old paddlewheel which constantly turned to grind wheat.
At the bottom of the work is a tangent green and bluish line evoking the Lézarde river running all through the city.
The concept was also to play with colors for giving us the impression to look at the scene through stained glasses, dialoguing with those of the Abbey located just behind. This effect is much more amplified due to the many asperities you can see on this unique surface." share the artists.
It took them 20 days to paint
