Free Space

The two street artists Clemens Brück and Sebastian Saffenreuter designed two artistic signposts near the city market in autumn 2019. The project is currently being completed with another wall.

In order to counteract graffiti in the city center with artistic elements, the idea arose to let the Krefeld artist collective "betont.es" design the small alleys facing the city market. “All murals follow the same artistic style. Objects typical of the market, for example fruit and vegetables, can be discovered, ”says artist Clemens Brück.

On each of the three walls, the visitor can find words that have to do with the city market: On the designed facade on Lohstrasse, the word “local” can be found three times in the mural. The word “Raum” can be found on the second wall (passage from “UDU” to the city market). It refers to the city market as a place of communication and clarifies the idea of the city as "free space". The third picture that is now being created on the wall between Königstrasse and Stadtmarkt along the underground car park exit relates to the “change” in the city center.
