In just two days, the street artists Clemes Brück and Sebastian Saffenreuter, who were also involved in the art project in the Downtown Gallery, lavishly designed part of the facade in Lohstraße and thus created an eye-catcher that visitors from Rheinstraße can now pass through the "small alley" should lead to the city market.

“The design quality of public space is becoming more and more important to visitors and citizens. This was also confirmed by the last survey of citizens and passers-by, which the university carried out on behalf of city marketing, ”explains city manager Dr. Christiane Gabbert from city marketing. Unfortunately, the side facade, as well as the benches with plant pots placed in front of it, were repeatedly smeared with graffiti to the annoyance of the residents. This gave rise to the idea of ​​having the wall designed by the Krefeld artist collective “betont.es”.

Clemens Brück explains: “The mural shows the way, across Lohstrasse to Krefeld's city market. Objects typical of the market, as well as fruit and vegetables, can be discovered. The choice of colors reflects the atmosphere of the market. A place to come together. In addition, the word `local´ can be found three times in the mural. Each of the three words has its own individual character in its design. The repetition not only gives the opportunity to grasp the word from all points of view, but also underlines the potential to act and buy locally ”.

“For us,” says Sebastian Saffenreuter, “the design of walls means looking at places in their context and using our images to create an interplay between architecture, people and the environment. Our murals often thrive on abstract typography and deformed objects. This creates new worlds in which the viewer can always discover new things. The abstraction helps to grasp the complex reality more easily and from new perspectives ”.
