Metin Altiok Mural, Izmir

A poem brought to life on a wall in Karşıyaka, İzmir.

Metin Altıok was born and raised in Karşıyaka, where he spent his childhood and youth. He later became one of Turkey’s important poets of his generation. Unfortunetely died in ''Madimak Massacre in 1993''

This mural was created as a visual interpretation of one of Metin Altiok's poems, “UYARILAR” , a poem about love for life, humanity, and the collective priorty

“To be human is to notice
The pigeon on the eaves
And to bloom a flower of one's own.
This love, you know, this love;
Attention!
Is the first thing to be saved in a fire.”

The imagery of the mural grows directly from these verses, transforming the poem into a large-scale public artwork on the streets of the neighborhood where Metin Altıok grew up. (by artist:Tsincap)

Aim of this project is about about bringing poetry back into the everyday life of the city, and keeping the memory of a poet alive through his words.

Remembering Metin Altıok not only through the tragedy that took his life, but through the poetry he left behind.
