Once you have crossed one of the bridges into Biest-Houtakker, there is no mistaking it: you are in Biest-Houtakker! Volunteers from the Wel Gement foundation and graffiti artist Bram Tuns have given the defaced bridge keeper's houses a new look.
The foundation's goal was simple: to create two genuine Biest landmarks on important access roads into the village. The defaced bridge keeper's houses were no great landmarks for the village. Together with the residents of the Biestend and Dèèkend neighbourhoods, a plan was made. The project was realised with the help of the municipality of Hilvarenbeek, the Oranjefonds and the Biest department (“the regents”).

Wie Biest-Houtakker via één van de bruggen binnen is gereden, kan er niet meer omheen. Je bent in Biest-Houtakker! Vrijwiligers van stichting Wel Gement en graffiti artist Bram Tuns hebben de bekladde brugwachtershuisjes een nieuw uiterlijk te geven.
Het doel van de stichting was simpel: twee echte Biestse landmarks creëren op belangrijke invalswegen het dorp in. De bekladde brugwachtershuisjes waren geen fraaie visitekaartjes. Samen met de buurtbewoners van buurschappen Biestend en Dèèkend werd een plan gemaakt. Het project is gerealiseerd met hulp van gemeente Hilvarenbeek, het Oranjefonds en de afdeling Biest (‘de regenten’).
