Hall of Fame

Aan de fietstunnels tussen de Dusart parking en het Kapermolenpark vond je in het verleden de 'Hall of Fame', de legale graffitimuren van Hasselt waar iedereen zijn graffitikunsten mocht komen vertonen.

Hasselt was in de jaren ’90 de eerste stad in België die muren openstelde waar graffiti-artiesten zich konden uitleven. In deze tunnels hebben veel artiesten hun eerste stappen gezet, en het was de plek bij uitstek om telkens weer nieuwe werken te ontdekken. Er vonden ook regelmatig graffiti jams plaats, zoals 'Easterjam Hasselt'.

Tot onbegrip van iedereen in lokale graffititiscène heeft de stad Hasselt besloten om de Hall Of Fame te verwijderen in het kader van de omvorming van de omgeving rond de Elfde Liniestraat tot een stadscampus naar Amerikaans model. Een lokale kunstenaar hekelde deze beslissing met de massaal gedeelde muurschildering 'Hasselt had het'.

Gelukkig kan je dankzij Street Art Cities alle huidige en historische werken aan de Hall Of Fame nog steeds hier bekijken.

Wie zijn kunsten wil vertonen op een legal wall in Limburg kan daarvoor terecht aan de legal walls in As, Bilzen en Genk.

In the past, the cycle tunnels between the Dusart car park and Kapermolen Park were home to the ‘Hall of Fame’, Hasselt’s legal graffiti walls where anyone could come and showcase their graffiti art.

In the 1990s, Hasselt was the first city in Belgium to open up walls where graffiti artists could express themselves. Many artists took their first steps in these tunnels, and it remains the perfect place to discover new works time and again. Graffiti jams also took place there regularly, such as ‘Easterjam Hasselt’.

To the bewilderment of everyone in the local graffiti scene, the city of Hasselt has decided to remove the Hall of Fame as part of the redevelopment of the area around Elfde Liniestraat into an American-style urban campus. A local artist criticised this decision with the widely shared mural ‘Hasselt had it’.
