Bootstraat

In het gebouw van de voormalige Muziekodroom vind je nu Bootstraat. Muziekorganisatie AFF (van het Absolutely Free Festival aan C-Mine in Genk) en jongerencultuurhuis De Serre starten er samen een vernieuwend centrum voor jongeren en muziek op.

AFF organiseert regelmatig optredens in de Bootstraat. Onder meer Miles Kane en Whispering Sons waren er al te gast. De Serre is dan weer een creatieve broedplaats met onder meer een bar, zeefdrukatelier, analoge fotostudio en coworking space. Er worden ook op geregelde tijdstippen kunstexpo's en boek- en filmvoorstellingen georganiseerd. Tijdens de zomermaanden kan je bij 'De Koer' terecht. Dit is een buitenterras met veel sfeer en muziek, in de schaduw van de gigantische murals van Iota en Sokar Uno.

Ook het residentieproject 'Wildgroei' krijgt een plaats in de Bootstraat. Tien residents, uit uiteenlopende genres, werken anderhalf jaar lang aan een individueel doel. Eén van die residents is de lokale, jonge graffitiartiest Scal, artiestennaam van Servaas Coppens. Hij krijgt een atelier ter beschikking en zal werk presenteren tijdens Kunstennacht 2025.

Op de gevel van de Bootstraat vind je street art van Itni en KBTR. Liefhebbers van sticker art komen op deze locatie zeker en vast ook aan hun trekken.

You can find Bootstraat in the building of the former Muziekodroom. Music organisation AFF (from the Absolutely Free Festival at C-Mine in Genk) and youth culture house De Serre are jointly launching an innovative centre for young people and music there.

AFF organises regular gigs in Bootstraat. Among others, Miles Kane and Whispering Sons have already been guests there. De Serre, in turn, is a creative incubator including a bar, silkscreen studio, analogue photo studio and coworking space. It also organises art exhibitions and book and film screenings at regular intervals. During the summer months, you can visit ‘De Koer’. This is an outdoor terrace with plenty of atmosphere and music, in the shadow of Iota and Sokar Uno's giant murals.

The residency project ‘Wildgroei’ will also have a place on Bootstraat. Ten residents, from a variety of genres, will work on an individual goal for a year and a half. One of those residents is local, young graffiti artist Scal, artist name of Servaas Coppens. He will have a studio at his disposal and will present work during Kunstennacht 2025.

On the Bootstraat façade, you will find street art by Itni and KBTR. Fans of sticker art will certainly get their money's worth at this location.
