Atlas - im Herzen Wilhelmsburger

Atlas - Wilhelmeburger at heart.

The real Atlas statue is situated on the roof top of Hamburg's main railway station. There have been 2 of them which were bombed during World war 2nd. In the 1960, workers restored one Atlas and placed him in their settlement in Wilhelmsburg. After the new housing company discovered the statue in its neighbourhood, they covered the restoration and handed it over to Deutsche Bahn. Since the end of September 2023 it is now back on the roof of the main station.  

As a tribute to its time in Wilhelmsburg, the artist Demut has created a mural at Thielenstraße.
