Coming up with the design was quite a spectacle, as they first wanted to see a Hamburg skyline - an impossibility on the stuccowork. Various concepts that could work well on the complicated surface were suggested but rejected. From somewhere, Hokusai's image of the Great Wave off Kanagawa spilled into the dialogue - That's it!"
