Created by Hungarian artist Fat Heat as part of the Urbanology initiative, this striking 240 m² mural transforms the façade of a residential building in Gyöngyös into a celebration of the nearby Mátra Landscape Protection Area. Blending art with environmental awareness, the work highlights the region's unique biodiversity while encouraging residents to reconnect with the natural world on their doorstep.
Dominating the composition is the majestic Saker Falcon, one of Hungary's most iconic birds of prey and a symbol of the fragile wildlife that inhabits the Mátra Mountains. Surrounding it are carefully selected native plant species, including the peacock-tailed Solomon's seal, mountain rock fern and the endemic Mátra bird quince, representing the area's rich and diverse ecosystems. Hidden within the design, attentive viewers can also spot the silhouette of the Mátra Mountains and the distinctive Kékestető TV Tower.
The mural emerged through a highly collaborative process involving local residents, the municipality, sustainability experts from the Mondolo Association and project initiator Rita Körhegyi. Residents even voted on their preferred design before the project moved forward.
