Trompe-l’œil

Description

At Great Coates Station, artist Nikita Spires has transformed a bricked-up wall into a lifelike painted window, blending illusion and architecture seamlessly. The trompe-l’œil effect gives depth and light to the historic brick façade, as if the station’s long-sealed window once again opens to the world outside.

The subtle gradient of cool blues and soft reflections evoke early morning light on glass — a quiet nod to the station’s age and character. This simple yet striking piece restores a sense of history and symmetry to the building’s original design.

I’m passionate about street art and public murals, always exploring new cities and hidden corners to discover creative walls and inspiring artists. I love capturing the stories, techniques, and emotions behind each piece — from large-scale murals to small tags that add character to a place. My goal is to document and celebrate urban creativity while connecting people through art in public spaces.
