OMG GMO

Description

This work explores the topic of GMO seed production, with a focus on the merger of Monsanto and Bayer. Instead of painting large-scale seeds, I chose to represent the concept through the animal kingdom—specifically ants, which felt like the perfect clean-up team. Ants are strong, organized, present all over the world, and always on a mission.

In the piece, the ants are carrying GMO seeds of corn, canola, cotton, and soy—some of the primary crops linked to Monsanto’s production. The seeds are painted blue because GMO seeds are often dyed this color for identification.

The setting is Grenoble, a mountain community in the Alps. The region is known for its fresh water and organic produce, and it felt like an appropriate place to reflect on how communities can engage with questions around food, agriculture, and large-scale seed production.
