<div>The mural was a collaborative project between the Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) Infant Feeding Team and funded by the Scottish Government’s through its ‘Programme for Government’ with support from Oak Tree Housing Association, which owns the building.<br>The idea is around normalising breastfeeding to encourage more local mums and expectant parents to breastfeed and continue to improve breastfeeding rates. <br>Breastfeeding mural in Greenock, Inverclyde, created by internationally-renowned artist Smug. Pictured are representatives from Inverclyde HSCP, Oak Tree Housing Association, Inverclyde Council and The Range.<br>Catriona MacLean, Inverclyde HSCP health visitor and infant feeding coordinator, said: “The immense health benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby make it a public health priority.<br><br>Recently named the most deprived area in Scotland, Greenock has an average of only 19% of mothers that continue breastfeeding after 6 weeks, however specific areas in Greenock are drastically lower than that, even down to 1%, giving the town the 2nd worst rate in the world. Hopefully this mural will spark conversation that will lead to normalising breastfeeding and improve breastfeeding rates in the area.<br><br>"4 named storms blew through in the 10 days I was on this.
