COP 26

This mural in the Merchant City which replaced The Badminton Player by Guido Van Helten on Wilson Street, was created by the Fearless Collective to coincide with the COP26 conference held in the city in 2021.

The mural features the faces of the Indigenous community who have been a continuous and outspoken presence throughout the conference.

Describing the artwork, Fearless said: "The mural is an image of power and sovereignty of indigenous leaders at COP26. Leaders of nations who have historically been unrecognised in spaces like this, stand tall and strong in the mural which is an affirmation of their existence and their wisdom".

A part of Guido's mural can still be seen as the feathers of his shuttlecock remain at the top of the mural, when asked, Fearless told me that their cherry picker couldn't take them high enough to paint over it.
