Created to celebrate the place of new communities in Govan and wider Glasgow.
When birds’ environments are under threat or uninhabitable they fly away in search of somewhere safe, often undertaking long and dangerous journeys to find somewhere peaceful to live, where they can protect themselves and their chicks. This mural represents this journey.
Over the summer I worked with Mears and with new communities who had just arrived in Glasgow. Their narratives inspired this mural. I want to thank them for taking the time to tell me their stories and for coming along to draw, paint and create some beautiful work.
One man said to me “even though we have different faiths and come from different places, we talk and we learn. We might believe different things but when we eat, we sit together at the table and we are family”
