Wat tot voor kort een wit elektriciteitscabine was naast de openbare bibliotheek op de Werft in Geel, is nu een levendig venster op verbeelding. Street art kunstenaar Bram De Ceurt (Bird) transformeerde het gebouwtje tot een poëtisch tafereel waarin een jonge jongen verdiept zit in een boek, beschut door een boomstam die overgaat in een zomerlandschap vol wolken en glooiende velden.

Het werk ademt rust en verwondering, precies wat de bib wil uitstralen. De samenwerking met het bibliotheekteam resulteerde in een mural die lezen koppelt aan natuur en vrijheid. Het roodborstje op de rand van het boek fungeert als subtiele gids tussen realiteit en fantasie, een symbool van de verhalen die uit de pagina’s opstijgen.

De stad Geel zet al langer in op street art in het centrum, en Bird’s werk past perfect in die visie: toegankelijk, menselijk en met een zachte blik op de wereld. Zijn realistische penseelstreken en warme kleuren brengen een moment van stilte in het straatbeeld, een uitnodiging om even stil te staan en te dromen.

What was, until recently, a white electricity substation next to the public library on the Werft in Geel is now a vibrant window onto the imagination.
