This piece pays tribute to the characters and atmosphere of a typical Fair Day in rural Ireland during the 1940s–60s. It was a gathering full of theatre, banter, and human connection. The farmers “sealing the deal" was a ritual in itself - a loud clap of hands to confirm a bargain, making sure everyone nearby knew that business had been done! Also featured is Margaret Barry, the legendary travelling musician who often performed in Shercock on Fair Days.
