By Mayan artist, based in Los Angeles, Votan Ik @votanik on the roof of Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center, 212 W. Second St., Duluth, Minnesota. Photos taken June 2021. The highlight of this morning's mural hunting was this mural on top of the American Indian Community Housing Organization. While looking for some way to get a good shot from the street, a fellow named Scott Thompson opened the door and invited me to go up to the roof to get a better shot. Turns out he's the building manager.

'The mostly red and black mural displays a traditional jingle dress dancer – a dance known for its connections to health and healing. According to the artist, “America suffers from historical amnesia” where “the original inhabitants of this paradise still suffer the after effects of colonialism.”'

"The mural represents several different images - a water protector, Native American women in general, and missing and murdered indigenous women, said Votan Ik, who also has an art business called Nsrgnts. Ik notes in his artist's statement that the mural is intended to put the issue of oil on a large platform, as well as advocate for renewable energy, education and empowerment." - https://nsrgnts.myshopify.com/blogs/nsrgnts-murals/ganawenjiige-onigam-she-watches-over-duluth
