Luka & the deer from the Biesbosch

This mural brings a part of Biesbosch to the Crabbehof area, to a square with many beautiful activities for and by the neighbourhood.

The idea of ​​the deer and trees comes from Dordrecht high school student Iris Kadijk (2004) who, as a farmer's daughter, has the Biesbosch as her backyard. She often spots deer and she loves to draw.

Barendrecht artist Ricardo van Zwol developed the idea, with a prominent role in the design for the boy next door, Luka Mrvos (2011). Luka looks at the mural from his house.

The project is an initiative by cultural entrepreneur Lotti Hesper to further green the Social Square in the making, and to stimulate meetings.

Van Zwol: "Painting portraits, nature and sunsets are really my thing. Working with layers, circles and offsets gives my murals movement and layering."

Born in 1975, Ricardo van Zwol grew up in Rotterdam and has been drawing and painting for a large part of his life. At a young age he got the chance to turn his hobby into his job. In the beginning of his career he painted various panels and walls on commission, mostly portraits, trompe l'oeuils and vistas. Besides painting on canvas, Ricardo also painted on old wooden planks, panels and directly on a wall. Ricardo's painting style could be recognized by the detail combined with a rough finish. His love for tattoo art can be seen in some of his works.

Nowadays Ricardo is a full time muralist, wellknown for painting in his very recognizable style. The artist uses only brushes and rollers, no spray cans.
