This mural’s story: In one way, Sluisdijk is just a neighbourhood. But it is also a neighbourhood in the middle of the world with local residents who are concerned about the future of our society and planet. In particular, a former Amsterdam resident who came to live in Deventer. He would like to see less pollution in the world, clean and healthy food and water, a beautiful environment which everyone can enjoy, and world peace. A little bit hippie and a little bit sixties. Timber Sommerdijk captured that feeling in this mural. You’ll see a universe of flowers being engulfed by or embraced by a single person. People are part of nature; we cannot lose sight of that fact. The dove of peace is watching over the scene, just like the protective dog in this dog-loving neighbourhood. Of course, there’s also a half-eaten dog biscuit in this mural – can you find it?
