“So Close – So Far Away.”

The third Street Art Streets ‘Young Talent Block’ by Lisa Berkouwer from The Hague is complete.

The title is “So Close – So Far Away.”

So Close / So Far Away is about the strange contradiction of human connection. As the work is painted on a block made of concrete, the artwork evokes the feeling of being trapped inside, representing the walls we build between ourselves and others. Two people can occupy the same space, or in this case: be in the same box, and yet exist in entirely different realities. Like day and night, they are close enough to touch, but at the same time existing in completely different worlds. The walls may feel solid and immovable, but the question remains: how do we break free?

We are very proud of this young talent, who also seized the opportunity with this project to work with spray paint for the first time. If you’d like to see this one in person, take a stroll over to the Havenkwartier and enjoy this lovely temporary square.

With this project, we are giving young makers and the muralists of the future the opportunity to gain experience creating murals on commission or in collaboration with parties such as Street Art Streets. We provide guidance where necessary and cover the cost of some materials from our Foundation, along with a contribution from the neighborhood Havenkwartier. The Project Developer from BKN-xl and the Gemeente Deventer helped bring this temporary neighborhood square & this concrete block to life for this project at the Havenkwartier #InDeventer.
