Blooming Possibilities

The mural is called “Blooming Possibilities” and prominently features a Muslim mother adjusting her daughter’s hijab. Other parts of the mural include a teapot pouring tea into an overflowing stack of teacups, flowers, a bird and kids playing soccer and reading.

Each included element has a specific meaning and representation.

The mural is said to represent the beauty and importance of the Salina community and schools as it seeks to uplift and empower the entire community.

The flowers symbolize the vibrancy of the community and reflect the countries of origin of the residents in Dearborn’s south end.

The teapot and cups represent traditions as the bird is a symbol of hope and freedom. The nonprofit Dearborn Community Fund launched Pockets of Perception in 2010. The apprentice-type program recruits high school students from across Dearborn Public Schools and neighboring districts to design and create community art in the city.
