This mural was created as a gift to the residents of the Patrijzenveld in Cuijk, The Netherland. The choice of subject came naturally: the partridge (patrijs in Dutch) not only reflects the name of the street, but also represents the subtle beauty and presence of nature in and around Cuijk.
Nature is always at the heart of my work. Wherever I paint, I try to bring the living world closer to people – to remind them of the harmony, resilience, and beauty we share with it. For Cuijk, this has an even deeper meaning: it is my birthplace, my home. Creating this artwork here has been very special, as it connects my personal roots with the daily lives of the community.
The partridge may be more modest in appearance than some other birds, but it carries a quiet strength and elegance. Closely tied to the fields and meadows of this region, it is a bird that belongs here – a symbol of connection to the land and to each other. By painting it on the walls, I wanted to offer residents a symbol of togetherness, nature, and belonging that accompanies them in their everyday surroundings.
With "The Partridges," I hope to share not just an image, but a feeling: of being at home in nature, and at home in Cuijk.
