Created for Wool festival 2024
Tea drinking is a centuries-old local tradition, introduced by the English (businessmen and wool workers) during the 18th and 19th centuries, and which resulted in the nickname "chazeiros" or "chazistas" given to the people of Covilhã. -
With "O Chá das 5" Daniela not only intend to portray the celebration of this tradition, but also what it provides to the community and families.
The tradition of Tea does not just represent a simple practice, but rather symbolizes communion and the spirit of the moment of sharing with the people we love. Simple moments, full of meaning, affection, experiences.
"I particularly liked the process and composition of the project. For this representation and conception, I invited women from my family for tea. We literally got together to have tea, the staging of which was prepared in detail. I focused as much as possible on the reality to be presented, both in terms of dynamics and in terms of the objects to be used, starting with teapots and ending with cupcakes. All phases were decisive in bringing the performance closer to a meeting of Beira friends having afternoon tea. Naturally, there was a moment of involvement and uninterrupted conversation, where the connection between everyone was experienced at a tea table.": shared the artist
