Chinaman Creek Water Tower Art

The Cloncurry Water Tank can be found out near Chinaman Creek and is probably one of the remotest water tanks in the Australian Silo Art Trail.

It was painted by Joel Fergie, aka The Zoo Keeper and completed in October of 2018.

The 360 degree mural one one side features an Indigenous lad by the name of Barrack. According the Joel, he is a legend of a kid from Cloncurry and he is a proud boy of the Mitakoodi community of North West Queensland. Joel was inspired to paint Barrack during Naidoc week, where he saw Barrack dance for his school with some other children in a group called the “Deadly Dancers”. 

The other side features Brianna. She is also a “Deadly Dancer” who’s family have lived in Cloncurry forever according to Joel. Brianna is symbolised throwing a paper plane across the landscape. Did you know that Cloncurry was the birthplace the Royal Flying Doctor Service?

Founded by Reverend John Flynn 1928 when he formed the Australian Inland Mission Aerial Medical Service, a one year experiment that was based in Cloncurry. This experiment later became The Royal Flying Doctor Service.
