Heron

Parmi les œuvre marquantes de cette édition 2022, figure celle de l’Ukrainien Palval, que vous pouvez apercevoir en arrivant depuis la rampe du Four à Chaux, dans le quartier du Pont-du-Leu. Ce père de trois enfants, originaire de Kharkiv et qui vit depuis le début de la guerre à Sofia, a décidé de représenter un héron, cet oiseau migrateur qui parcourt des milliers de kilomètres l’hiver avant de revenir à son point de départ. « Pour moi, c’est un symbole de migration, le héron finit toujours par revenir chez lui. Aujourd’hui, je vis comme un oiseau qui a migré en Bulgarie. Je vois le héron comme un reflet de ma vie actuelle », explique l’homme de 37 ans. 
C’est à l’aune de ce contexte belliqueux et de son exil que sa fresque se charge d’une émotion toute particulière. Et le choix des couleurs y participe, puisque le plumage de l’oiseau est coloré sur une petite surface, alors qu’il est pour la majorité dans des teintes grises et beiges. L’artiste, qui souhaitait laisser planer le mystère autour de la signification des couleurs, avait toutefois admis qu’elles avaient une portée symbolique, comme il le confiait : « Je pense qu’un Ukrainien ne verrait pas [le héron] du même œil qu’un Français, il y a des couleurs et des symboles qui n’ont pas la même signification. Mais je ne dirai pas ce que cela signifie pour moi ! C’est comme une quête, si j’en dévoile le sens, ça perd de son intérêt ».

Among the outstanding works of this 2022 edition is that of the Ukrainian Palval , which you can see when arriving from the Four à Chaux ramp, in the Pont-du-Leu district. This father of three children, originally from Kharkiv and who has lived since the start of the war in Sofia, decided to represent a heron, this migratory bird which travels thousands of kilometers in winter before returning to its starting point. “  For me, it is a symbol of migration, the heron always ends up returning home. Today, I live like a bird that migrated to Bulgaria. I see the heron as a reflection of my current life  ,” says the 37-year-old.
It is in the light of this warlike context and his exile that his fresco takes on a very special emotion. And the choice of colors participates in it, since the plumage of the bird is colored on a small surface, while it is for the majority in gray and beige hues. The artist, who wanted to let the mystery hang over the meaning of the colors, had however admitted that they had a symbolic significance, as he confided: "I  think that a Ukrainian would not see [the heron] with the same eye than a Frenchman, there are colors and symbols that do not have the same meaning. But I won't say what that means to me! It's like a quest, if I reveal its meaning, it loses its interest ”.
