This bold, colourful mural-in-progress is part of the Cairns Regional Council’s Youth Urban Art Project, transforming a local underpass into a vibrant passage of creativity and community expression.
Painted by emerging young artists, the design celebrates life, nature, and imagination through striking colours and playful forms. Finished sections feature vivid beetles, mushrooms, native birds, and stylised human-animal hybrids in a comic-inspired style. In-progress sketches hint at even more detail to come—spiders, dragonflies, cats, and other whimsical elements are still waiting to be brought to life.
This living artwork is a testament to youth creativity and collaboration. With each brushstroke, the underpass evolves into a welcoming, story-filled space that invites walkers, cyclists, and curious onlookers to pause and appreciate the artistic journey.
