As part of the 4th Anderlecht artists' festival, the Urbana association has organised murals on 16 viaduct pillars along the Marius Renardlaan and the tram stop 81 in Anderlecht for two consecutive days. This takes place on Saturday and Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. About 20 well-known Belgian artists from the urban art scene create pieces on the theme of "Giants of Anderlecht".
The pillars offer between 6.5 and 9.7 meters of space for artistic expression. Among the participating artists are Hell'o, Farm Prod, Eyes-B, Blancbec, Aien, Ebola, Derm, El nino 76, Dem os, Solo, Nean, Reab and Defo Dalbino. Steve Locatelli signed Stromae, whom he considers one of the Brussels giants. Some artists drew a caricature of themselves destroying a city. The Brussels artists Eres and Reset drew a giant mosquito to play with dimensions. Lolo, an artist from Valencia, Spain, was invited to the event and drew a half-human lizard.
With this initiative, Urbana hopes to highlight the work of urban artists and to have the pillars "de Neerpede" recognized as historical for the Belgian urban art scene. "Thanks to this initiative, we have breathed new life into this place. We have been coming here to paint for 20 or 30 years," explains Adrian Lobet, who organized the event for the Urbana association. "It's not allowed on the tram side. That meant it was covered in simple signatures and looked dilapidated."
