L'envol des baobabs

Created for the Parcours STREETART project, explore full trail here

Mural by JABA on a social building, on the edge of the Parc Maximilien. The non-profit organisation Une Ville en Couleur commissioned the artist to work on a new fresco based on the thoughts of its residents.

JABA created the work ‘L'envol des baobabs’ (The baobabs take flight), on which you can see the legendary Madagascan-derived Boabab tree and flying Senegalese buses.

JABA, real name Didier Mathieu, grew up in Liège and studied illustration at Saint-Luc.
He is one of the pioneers of Belgian street art. His world is heavily inspired by comics, anime and manga. He worked as a concept artist at Lucas Film and collaborated on numerous productions such as Star Trek, Transformers and Iron Man.
He returned to Liège after spending a few years in Singapore, where he taught at Nanyang Polytechnic.
