Artwork created for Blind Walls Gallery in 2023

"This mural shows the transformation of man and water and is based on the nearby city stream: De Molenleij. Centuries ago, this stream served as a ditch between agricultural fields; today it is an urban stream that crosses the Brabantpark district.

Robert Jan was inspired by old school pictures of streams, rivers and plants. The construction of this Blind Wall consists of a cross-section, in which three animals are central: a beaver, a fish and a heron. This trio represents land, water and air.

During the 2023 Open Call, Robert Jan was chosen by the jury as the winner. His prize was the commission for this mural in Breda’s public space." - Blind Walls Gallery

Muurschildering voor Blind Walls Gallery in 2023

“Deze schildering toont de transformatie van de mens en het water en is gebaseerd op de nabijgelegen stadsbeek: De Molenleij. Eeuwen geleden diende deze beek als sloot tussen de landbouwvelden, tegenwoordig is het een stadsbeek die de wijk Brabantpark doorkruist.

Robert Jan liet zich inspireren door oude schoolplaten van beken, rivieren en planten. De opbouw van deze Blind Wall bestaat uit een doorsnede, hierin staan drie dieren centraal: een bever, een vis en een reiger. Dit drietal representeert land, water en lucht.

Tijdens de Open Call in 2023 werd Robert Jan door de jury gekozen als winnaar. Zijn prijs was de opdracht voor deze muurschildering in de openbare ruimte van Breda.” – Blind Walls Gallery
