The Wall of Connection / De Muur van Verbinding

Artwork created for Blind Walls Gallery in 2025

"The mural “The Wall of Connection” was created in celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Vincentius Association of Breda. This association helps people with both material assistance (such as clothing and goods) and financial support.

The creation of the mural was made possible through a successful crowdfunding campaign, in which 206 donors raised a total of 8.628 euros, enabling the artwork to be realized. Thus, the mural (and its creation) is a beautiful tribute to Vincentius’ motto: “Every person matters.

Simon Mannaerts (SIMO) is a street artist/fine painter and part-time bicycle mechanic based in Antwerp, Belgium. Drawing is second nature to him. He creates both oil portraits and large-scale murals using spray paint and acrylics. Fascinated by people, animals, movement, and psychology, he uses colors and lines to express what letters and words cannot describe." - Blind Walls Gallery

“‘De Muur van Verbinding’ is gerealiseerd ter ere van het 175-jarig bestaan van Vereniging Vincentius Breda. Deze vereniging helpt mensen zowel met materiële hulp (zoals kleding en spullen) als financiële steun. Om dit gedenkwaardige moment te vieren heeft Simon Mannaerts deze mural gemaakt.

De muurschildering is geïnspireerd op het motto van Vincentius Vereniging Breda: Ieder Mens Telt. Het is een doorsnede uit de samenleving met verschillende personages van verschillende leeftijden, genders en achtergronden. Ze zoeken allen op een manier de interactie met elkaar, dit is veelal een vorm van hulp, steun of samenwerking.

We zien ook verschillende gekleurde cirkels of bollen, deze vertegenwoordigen ‘armoede’ in de vorm van bagage die we allemaal op onze eigen manier met ons meedragen. Wat dit precies is, is opzettelijk niet ingevuld en kan dus voor iedereen iets anders betekenen.
