An honour to St. Joost

”With this Blind Wall, Ge Smit honours the art school St. Joost in Breda, which has provided a lot of creativity in the city. At St. Joost there are and were many colorful figures who do surprising and creative things with posters, images, designs, poems and murals in the city.

The Blind Wall, which consists of wooden panels, features a total of eight artists. It includes a portrait of one of the world’s leading vjs, Michelle van Mil. Kees Zwart, who set up the first graphic design agency in Breda, is also depicted. The internationally known lingerie designer Marlies Dekkers also shines on Molsparking.

Behind this Blind Wall is the old St. Joost Chapel, where the art school based it’s name on.

Gé Smit is a Dutch artist, designer and senior lecturer with an interest in speculative and critical design. Ge Smit is the creative owner of Go Other Directions since 2003 and works for national and international clients.” - Blind Walls Gallery

Muurschildering voor Blind Walls Gallery in 2022

“Met deze schildering eert Gé Smit de Bredase kunstacademie St. Joost, die voor veel creativiteit in de stad heeft gezorgd. Op St. Joost zitten en zaten veel kleurrijke figuren die verrassende en creatieve dingen doen met posters, beelden, ontwerpen, gedichten en muurschilderingen in de stad. 

Op de Blind Wall, die bestaat uit houten panelen, staan in totaal acht kunstenaars afgebeeld. Er staat onder andere een portret van een van ’s werelds belangrijkste vj’s, Michelle van Mil, op. Kees Zwart, die het eerste bureau voor grafische vormgeving in Breda opzette, is ook afgebeeld. En de internationaal bekende lingerieontwerpster Marlies Dekkers schittert ook op de Molsparking.

Achter deze Blind Wall bevindt zich de oude St. Joostkapel, de naam van de kunstacademie is hierop gebaseerd.

Gé Smit is een Nederlandse kunstenaar, designer en oud-docent met een interesse in speculatief en kritisch design. Hij heeft ervaring in de marketing- en reclame-industrie en is bedreven met logo-ontwerp, reclame, branding, identiteit en typografie.“ - Blind Walls Gallery
