In 2022, 20 municipalities from the eastern part of our province joined forces in a joint project REGIO OO(g)ST.

In this cultural region of East Brabant, we are working together on an artistic project that puts the farming profession in a positive light.

Professional theatre performances have already taken place in a number of farms and a photography competition, in 2024 the focus will be on street art.

When I was asked to make a mural to promote the farming profession, I wanted to focus on the knowledge of the farmers. When I went to help my neighbor and farmer Johan Smets as a child, I saw how he took a straw during the harvest, rubbed it between his hands and blew the chaff off the wheat. That way, he knew when the grain was ready to harvest.

The chaff flies through the air and turns into barn swallows, in the past the farmers used to watch these birds to know what kind of weather was coming. The farmers live with the seasons, the weather and nature together.
