Head in the Walls

The mural "Head in the Walls" presents a simplified, geometric composition of buildings in a minimalist palette of black, white, and yellow. Houses, arranged like clouds against the light silhouette of a mountain, create a metaphor for the urban landscape of Bielsko-Biała, where the escape beyond the walls toward nature is inherently ingrained. A key element of the work is the inscription "Głową w murach" – a wordplay on a popular Polish idiom, transposed into the context of human existence within city architecture.

The work is a result of the project "Graphorysm – Between Word and Action," in which students from the local Fine Art High School explored the connections between language and image. The mural serves as an artistic attempt to answer how enriching text with a visual layer changes its perception. Through typographic and graphic experimentation, the authors aimed to create a message that stops passersby for a moment of reflection on the value of the context in which art functions in public space.

The authors of the mural are students of the Julian Fałat State High School of Fine Arts: Paulina Podżorska, Maria Łacny, Zofia Franasik, Angelika Zieleźnik, Maja Żurowska, Zuzanna Konik, Weronika Siąkała, and Michalina Jarosz.

The project was funded by a grant awarded as part of the 7th edition of the "Wena" Grant Program Competition by the Starak Family Foundation (2025/2026 school year).
