Fáilte go Béal Feirste / Welcome to Belfast.
Description
Painted as part of Hit the North 2023 with Hennessy
The Artist says...
When I looked at the etymology of Belfast, I remembered the name came from Béal Feirste - the Gaeilge for “mouth of the sand-bank ford”. I think this piece is suitably sand-bank fordlike.
In terms of style, one of my favourite things to do it ligature- or how we connect letters together. This is commonly seen is f+i and f+l in copy texts, but it’s so much more than that. Look it up, your life won’t be the same after.
