The artist says...

Selkies are mythological creatures that feature heavily in Irish and Scottish Celtic folklore. Shapeshifters that can go between the ocean and land by use of their seal skin cloak. Originally depicted as peaceful and beautiful creatures but like many female figures within folklore, as our cultures changed, stories shifted to depict them as either victims of humans or a threat to them. I created this piece to reclaim the beauty, strength and peace of the Selkie, the keepers of our seas.
